Audition scripts

MAN 1 - AUDITION SCRIPT
Man 1 is holding a photo showing it to woman 3
MAN 1
That’s little Amelia, she’s 2. And that’s Tommy, he’s 5 on friday
WOMAN 3
They’re beautiful
MAN 1
(Starting to cry and attempting to hide it)
I promised i’d take him to the pictures.
WOMAN 3
Hey! It’s alright!
MAN 1
You should have seen how excited he was.
WOMAN 3
I’m sorry
MAN 1
(Looking up at her in realisation)
I can’t let him down. I promised.
WOMAN 3
What are you going to do?
MAN 1
I’m going home to my boy. Whatever it takes. I’m going home to my family.

MAN 2 - AUDITION SCRIPT
Man 2 is hiding behind a pillar clutching his bag.
MAN 2
(Whispered to himself)
It’s not real. You’re ok. you’re fine... It’s a dream. It’s a...
Woman 1 grabs him by his shirt and holds a blade to his
throat. He holds his hands up above his head

WOMAN 1
I’m not a fan of an easy kill, but
such is life.
MAN 2
No,no look I’m unarmed! I’m
unarmed!
WOMAN 1
That’s your problem, not mine
MAN 2
I’m not a threat to you! Please!
WOMAN 1
Shame, it’s less fun this way.
MAN 2
Please, I’m begging you! Let me go
I can’t hurt you! Let me go, let me
run!
WOMAN 1
Well as you asked so nicely, I’ll
count to three.
She lets him go and he stands frozen to the spot. She leans
in closer to him.
(Whispered)

Go!

MAN 3 - AUDITION SCRIPT
Man 3 is hidden on the stairs aiming with his rifle down at
the woman who is scanning the area for danger. She is
holding a handgun which is shaking in her hands
.
MAN 3
You will not take me down little
girl!
"Fear not, nor be afraid. For the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee."
He cocks and aims. As he fires the woman screams out in
shock.

Shit.
WOMAN 2
Where are you!? Come on face me!
Look me in the eye as you kill me!
(Screaming)
Come on then!
MAN 3
He cocks and aims again. The woman is looking up panicking.
(Said with anger this time)

"No sacrifice for sins is left."
The gunfire echoes in the silence.
There you go.
He holds the rifle with the bayonet gently resting against
his face as he shuts his eyes and breathes out.

WOMAN 1 - AUDITION SCRIPT
Woman 1 is looking into a hidden camera (directly to camera)
smiling sadistically.

WOMAN 1
(said quietly)
The lioness will stalk her prey
before the attack, savoring the
moment. My mother used to tell me
not to play with my food.
(smirking)
She’s gone now. And anyway, whose
eating..?
She turns away from the camera and sees Man 2 hiding
unsuccessfully behind a small wall.

(She whistles)
It’s play time junior.
She throws a blade in his direction.

WOMAN 2 - AUDITION SCRIPT
Woman 2 grabs man 2 and pulls him out of danger. They duck
behind some crates.

WOMAN 2
You were a sitting target you idiot! If you’re not more careful than that, you’ll be dead before the day is out.
MAN 2
Oh I am sorry,it’s just...
(sarcastically)
it’s been a while since I last had to fight for my life!
WOMAN 2
If you don’t want my help fine, I can leave you here to die.
MAN 2
Why would you help me!?
WOMAN 2
I’ll defend myself here but I won’t just stand by and watch someone else suffer.
MAN 2
And I’m supposed to just believe
that?
WOMAN 2
Believe what you want, like I said I can go if you want me to. It’s not like I’m busy surviving or anything...
She gets up to leave
MAN 2
Look, I’m sorry OK. I just don’t know who to trust
WOMAN 2
Don’t trust anyone! That’s rule number one.

WOMAN 3 - AUDITION SCRIPT
Woman 3 and Man 2 are both crouched behind a wall.
MAN 2
I’ve never even been in a fight! How am I supposed to do this?
WOMAN 3
You aren’t supposed to that’s the whole point!
Man 2 sighs and looks at his hands
I don’t see how everyone seems to find it so easy to just kill each other just because they were told to. This is so wrong.
MAN 2
I’m sure they all have their reasons.
WOMAN 3
What, so now there is a valid reason for taking someone’s life?!
They see man 3 run past and they watch silently until is gone.
MAN 2
He’s a father. He just wants to go home.
WOMAN 3
We all want to go home! But if I get to go home, I won’t be going a murderer, I would rather die than
that.

Research for the website

For the website there are some conventions of thriller/action movies to abide by. I looked at a series of websites to see what the conventions would be, below I have shown the main features commonly used in film website, which should help us with our website design.

Typical conventions found:
    • Social networking links such as: Twitter, Facebook, Flickr. Which are the most prevalent three I have found.
    • Background images linked to the film poster and trailer e.g. pictures (usually close ups or medium shots of the main protagonists or antagonist), or a picture of an iconic scene taken from the film.
    • Trailer automatically plays on the opening of the website home page
    • Links to a store, shop or gallery page
    • Twitter feeds, or a way for fans to interact with the site. Usually run along the side or at the top of the home page
    • Critics reviews quoted on the home page
    • Tag line of the film
    • Animation related to both the genre and individual film
    • Any iconic symbols from the film will be displayed on the website i.e. The Hunger Games emblem is an animation on the film's website, and likewise on the SAW website the jigsaw puppet is featured as both are identifiable symbols of the films.

    RAMBO WEBSITE:

There are critic reviews, to the right side of the home page, for example the one above mentions Silvester Stallone's well known reputation "STALLONE PROVES ONCE AGAIN WHY HE IS A LEGEMD!" This is a commonly found feature on websites, as using a famous actors name, makes a film appeal to the already excisting fan base of the actor/actors. The use of having good critics review, also gives the audience confidence in the film, and suggests that they are going to enjoy viewing it.

There are links to different pages, offering a store, gallery, and ways for fans to download the film trailer, by givng freebies like this it again increases the fan base and promotes the film to a range of people.

(above) There is rambo inspired animation on the home page, which loads several different times showing animation and graphics linked with scenes from the film, for example it uses the colour scheme, khaki colours and scratch marks connoting the idea of army and survival, which are main themes of the film. If possible, our website design could possibly do a lower tech version of this type of animation.

    SAVAGES WEBSITE:

The trailer beings automatically on entering the website as is conventional for film websites. It is positioned in the middle of the home page, making it prominent and attention grabbing to the audience (above). A feature we will replicate on our own website.

The title of the film is bold, and prominently placed on the top of the sites home page, as well as the directors name just above the title, as well as the release date of the film and other film information. The typography used for all three is the same using continuity to give the site a more professional look (above).

In the top right corner of the home page there are links embedded to social networking sites, and also to You Tube, where fans can post videos and other links to the trailer. These are important features used on most websites, as film creators want to encourage fan interaction with the site, as this boosts the fan base populous and fan loyalty. We will definitely include social networking links on our film website.

    Photoshop practice

I have never really used Photoshop and so I thought it would be a good idea to practice layering images and looking at what I could do before we make the typography for the film and before we start making the poster. Below is a test of how to layer two basic images.

I layered the image of the zombie below over the image of a university lobby. This is the sort of thing we will be doing in the poster I think so its a good thing to practice.

I layered the image over and then used the eraser tool to remove the background of the field and blend the image in. It was really simple so I think it will be good to use on the poster.

    Costume research - women

it is important for the representation of the character that we chose the correct type of costume. I have looked in to the costumes used in similar films and have looked into the idea of uniforms or just normal clothes for the characters.

This is Emilia Burns in 'The condemned' in which prisoners fight it out for survival and freedom. Her costume has some traits we could replicate:

    • It is quite tight on the top half to show she is athletic
    • The low cut top is used to make her look attractive but we could use a similar idea to show off wounds or bruises. We could also use this type of costume for our more feisty female roles as they will need to look more attractive.
    • she is wearing practical combat trousers.
    • The trousers and top are both green - mimics the colours used in army uniforms.
    • She is wearing practical army boots.
    • Her hair is down to emphasise her distress and her movements when running. It also shows she was not entirely prepared for the situation.

This is Devin Kelley in 'Chernobyl diaries' in which a group of tourists find that the site of Chernobyl is haunted. Her costume has some traits we could copy:

    • her top is loose but actually quite low cut.
    • She is wearing normal clothing - means that the audience believe this is just a normal person and we can relate to her more.
    • Her hair is down (like the first example) and messy.
    • she is wearing simple make up but enough to make her attractive.

This is Katie Cassidy in 'Nightmare on Elm Street' from 2010 in which a man gets revenge on the children of his enemies by attacking them in their sleep. Her costume is simple but we could still take some aspects from it :

    • She is wearing a low cut and ver short night dress to make her look young and sexy - it also shows off her reasonably athletic frame.
    • The white shows she is innocent and will also show off any injuries or dirt well.
    • Her hair is up in a loose ponytail - this has slightly fallen out to show she is distressed and has been running.

    Costume research - men

To maintain a constant look for our trailer, controlling the appearance of our characters is vital. Costume tells us a lot about  character and is hugely important for the representation of the character. I need to look at other films with similar themes to ours to see how they use costume to show who our characters are.

    • This shot from 'The Hunger Games' shows the costume of the character Peeta. He is part of the games and so is a perfect role to look at for our costumes as our characters will be in a similar situation.
    • He is dressed in simple khaki combat trousers, a dark navy t-shirt and hiking boots. This a practical outfit designed to be suitable for the running and fighting involved in the film- he also has a black rucksack and black waterproof jacket at the beginning of the games.
    • The make up is actually more important to the costume as that is what shows us he is actually doing something dangerous - with the dirt, blood and cuts - than the clothing. However the clothing is important as it shows us that this is just a normal person but, when shown with the other characters, we can see it is a sort of uniform.
    • These shot show the main costumes in 'The Experiment' (2010) - the character '7' is in the top shot and the second image shows the clothes given to the prisoners to wear. The white vest worn by 7 ( he also is wearing the pale green/grey trousers given to the prisoners) makes him appear innocent and vulnerable - the amount of flesh on show makes him look even more vulnerable as well.
    • The pale green of the prisoners uniform makes them look vulnerable and almost weak.
    • The loose fit also makes us see them as weak because it hides their muscles and makes them look small and thin.
    •  The number and, later, 7's shaved head is reminiscent of how prisoners looked in the holocaust.

    • This is a shot from 'Saw 4'. This costume is very simple - the man is wearing a relaxed shirt with a white t-shirt underneath. He is dressed like a normal/average man to allow the audience to relate to him - we can more easily believe he is just like us.
    • The blood splatter is the only sign (obviously ignoring the glass tank on the mans head) from the costume that this is not a normal, average situation.
    • The character is in pale colours - this is for two reasons : the first is that it shows the character as innocent and undeserving of what is happening and the second is so that the dirt and blood shows easily.
    • The blood splatter across the white and grey shirt could be symbolic of how the character appears innocent but Saw knows what bad things he has done and is revealing them to taint his clean image.

Make up Research - Fake wounds and injuries

Due to the film we are making the trailer and promotion for being a acton/thriller film with a lot of action involved in the narrative, it is important we know how to effectively use make up to create fake wounds and generally make it the effect of the 'games' on the characters look real.

I have looked up some different ways of creating these effects but most of them looked over exaggerated and more suitable for halloween than a professional film. However some step by step tutorials I have found on Youtube have been really useful and show that making the injuries look real doesn't have to be expensive and laborious.

Below is a short tutorial made by BBC Blast on how to make a small wound that looks very realistic:

I really liked how simple this tutorial made the make up so I decided to look through the other videos by the same make up artist, I think his name is Gregory Vicks, and I found that he has made another tutorial for BBC blast that is really useful for making another wound we may need.
Below is a tutorial for a fake burn - I think it could be interesting to try this with one of the characters as it would be a injury that would make the situation obviously more serious:
