Filming: Day 5
Day: 5
Date: 4/1/13
Time: 9:00am -12:00pm
Group Members Present: Summer, Farah
No. of Actors Present: 2/5 actors
Filming
- We filmed the final shots working with the rifle. We had to focus a lot on continuity as one of the shots linked to another that we had filmed on a separate day.
- The shots we took on this day were often very technical such as working with focus and exposure so took a long time.
Location/Mise en scene
- We worked both on the industrial estate and on a yard. The yard created issues due to mise-en-scene and the shots had to frame only the actor to cut out inappropriate mise en scene which could not be moved.
Sound
- We used the zoom recorder to capture the detail of the audio of the shots and used the clapper board in order to sync these in post production. We also mounted the sound recorder on the camera to record sound in the tracking running shots.
What to do next
- All we have left to do is record the voice over to edit in with the trailer.
Filming: Day 4
Day: 4
Date: 14/12/12
Time: 4:00pm -6:00pm
Group Members Present: Summer
No. of Actors Present: 1/5 actors
On the fourth day of filming, were working with 1 actor, working mainly on photography and not filming on any particular scenes.
Location/Mise en scene
- We used the industrial estate as location mainly based at the tanker and the wall where our photo shoots are based
- The tanker was used heavily as the actor was able to interact and climb it
Character head-shots
- We worked a lot on this on this day and took head-shots and body shots for the website/poster as well as taking pictures of the actors interacting with the set for the same purposes.
Complications
- Because we didn't have clearance at this point to film on the streets with replica weapons we could not film the scenes that we had hoped to on this day and so had to add an additional day of filming for this once we had permission
What to do next
- Film final shots with the last actor
Filming: Day 3
Day: 3
Date: 1/12/12
Time: 11:00am -6:00pm
Group Members Present: Summer, Farah
No. of Actors Present: 2/5 actors
On the third day of filming, were working with 2 actors, and this day required a lot of preparation.
Filming
- We filmed many shots on this day, including scripted dialogue shots and interaction between the characters.
- Throughout the day we made sure we had at least three shots per scene and took stills with the actors throughout the filming including separate photo shoots at the end of the session for stills for the poster and website.
Location/Mise en scene
- We used the industrial estate as location on this shoot, and used the Barrier animal clinic as a base to give the actors a green room
- We were also able to use an outside spiral staircase to achieve the extreme high angle used in the sniper shot.
- We also used a tanker quad full of industrial material as miss-en-scene which we rearranged for our purposes to film the dialogue scenes.
Character head-shots
Makeup
- Makeup was used on the actors to create the bruised and beaten up effect, which was different this time as we were working with different skin tones which required different types of makeup to create the desired effects.
Sound
- We used the zoom recorder to capture the detail of the audio of the shots and used the clapper board in order to sync these in post production. We also mounted the sound recorder on the camera to record sound in the tracking running shots.
What to do next
- Next week we have one more actor to work with.
- We will focus on the character head-shots for our website and poster, so that all characters have a profile photo.
- We will film many short shots of the actor running, and climbing on the industrial mise en scene
- We will be working with the fake rifle and so will need to apply for street permission.
Camera equipment
The cameras which we will be using are:
Canon 550d
Canon 550d
This DSLR camera will achieve professional quality footage and allows total control over exposure, allowing us to shoot exactly as we wish to. It works with detachable lenses also allowing us more freedom over the shots that we take.
We will use a 18-55mm lens for wide angle, close up to mid shots.
We will then use a 55-250mm lens for mid to long shots. this lens will be particularly useful when taking the high angle sniper shot.
We also will be using a Nikon D6000 for still shots. This is a high quality photography camera that will allow us to capture professional imagery for use in our poster and website.
Sound equipment
When filming our trailer, we will be using a Zoom H4n sound recorder. It has stereo sound, and is light and compact and easy to transport when filming on location. It is also very simple to use but achieves high quality, professional results.
As you can see from the control panel on the side, there is a headphone port, allowing the member of crew in charge of sound to use headphones to have a live feed of the sound they are recording without external interference. This will allow us to be sure we have good recordings before the end of the filming day to avoid the need to refill.
By using a wind sock to cover the cross mics, we will prevent bad quality sound recordings by eliminating wind interference. We can also mount the zoom recorder onto the camera and hand held steady cam mount to record sound in the hand held tracking shots that we will be filming, as it will allow us to keep the mic close to the actors even in running shots.

On the second day of filming, we had created a shot list for the day and planned everything we needed. We planned to work on the scenes with complicated effects and mise-en-scene as well as working with the 1 actor.
Filming
- We filmed a small number of shots on this day as they were very complicated to set up due to setting up lighting etc to create the desired effects.
- We took at least 3 takes per shot to make sure we had a selection to choose from in post production. As well as shots from different angles in some cases
Location/Mise en scene
- We chose to film the window shot up against a cages frosted glass window to help aid the desired silhoetted effect we were aiming for.
- We worked a lot with fake blood on this shoot, creating a bloody hand effect and a bloody puddle as well as using it as makeup on the actor.
Character head-shots
Makeup
- Makeup was used again on the actor to create the bruised and beaten up effect.
- The outcome again was successful and created a realistic effect perfect for adding impact to our shots.
Sound
- We used the zoom recorder to capture the detail of the audio of the shots and used the clapper board in order to sync these in post production.
What to do next
- Next week, we will have more actors on the day of filming, therefore, we will be able to get more shots done.
- We will focus on the character head-shots for our website and poster, so that all characters have a profile photo.
- We will film many short shots of the characters running, chasing and interacting (fighting) with each other for the trailer.
- We will film the spoken scenes with the actors

Filming: Day 1
Day: 1
Date: 18-11-12
Date: 18-11-12
Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm
Group Members Present: Danielle, Summer, Farah
No. of Actors Present: 1/6 actors
On the first day of filming, following our shooting script, we knew which scenes we wanted to film this day. Although, we were limited to one actor that day, which also limited our choice of scenes.
Filming
- We filmed many shots of the actor including one where he is being chased and is running away, being trapped in a cellar through railings, and aiming and shooting a bow and arrow.
- We made sure we had more than a few shots on each section so that we can choose the perfect shots for our trailer.
Location/Mise en scene
- We chose to film the shots near a pub, as there were more mise en scene in the area that would be good for our storyline.
- We included large bolders from a nearby park, which were good to portray being enclosed away from the outside world, and also for the actor to run and jump up on. This adds to the action of the trailer.
- We noticed that there were many barbed wire around the tops of walls, which was a great find for us. We took this at our advantage and filmed this as it would represent the impossibility of escaping.
Character head-shots
Props
- We had a range of set-props we could use in the area that were naturally there, such as rocks and sticks which were used as weapons for the character.
- As it is autumn, we noticed a vast amount of leaves and foliage around the park area and pavements. We used this to our advantage by ruffling the leaves to make wispy sound. We also filmed a shot of the actors feet, while running and being chased, which would make a good shot to use for our trailer montage.
Makeup
- This was the first day we tried the makeup/facepaint on the actor.
- We were very pleased of the outcome, as the makeup was subtle but noticeable and has a great impact on the scenes.
- We used black and brown facepaints for dirt and scratch marks, and fake blood for cuts and wounds.
- It looked very realistic and would be a great addition to our film trailer, website and poster.
Sound
- We found and recorded a vast range of sound for our trailer that day. This included the rustling of leaves, screaming of the actor being chased, and clanging sounds from metal bars.
- We used a voice recorder to record individual sounds so that we can add them onto each shot while editing in the process.
Complications
- The majority of our set actors could not make this day of filming hence we only had one actor. Although, we worked around this issue by focusing on this character and making sure we successfully complete the filming and capture head shots for this character.
- Throughout filming, delay was caused by cars passing whilst filming scenes on the road. This interfered with the camera work and also produced unwanted excess sound.
